The fan is triggered by a thermoswitch that is screwed to the metal fins on the back upper part of the fridge. It does not come on due to a high air temp, it comes on due to a high metal fin temp. Mine comes on even when the air is cool, just not as often. On a really warm day my fan runs more than half the time and may stay on for hours without stopping. My fridge will ice up the inside fins even when it is 90-100 degrees F outside. Even at 110 degrees but I think hard about going home when it gets that hot. The rear fan will run all day when it is 100+ outside. I should mention that I have an exhaust fan that pulls the hot air behind the kitchen unit to the outside. Even when I don't use this my fridge still ices up in hot weather but the heat from the fridge makes the inside of the van warmer so I put an exhaust fan in to direct the hot air outside. You can reach and test the thermoswitch from the small removable vent grill on the upper side of the fridge cabinet. Mark
