I dared to be different and changed to square lights. Going to the square lights I noticed as you have they weren't as bright, so I installed my own relays for the headlights and this made them brighter.

And I really like the inner high beams -the light is more than enough. I had H-4 bulbs before. I like the H-4 bulbs, but now the square lights are acceptable since the relays alllow the bulbs to burn brighter.

It seems like too many cars have low beams that are as bright as high beams and it's apparent after adding the relays that the dimness is a relay problem more than bulb wattage. The 45 watt low beam is a DOT bulb, and many cars use them. The Jetta has them- no dimness problem that I can see.

Now that there is an explosion of imported high wattage bulbs be sold in the US,night driving has become glaringly uncomfortable in the city. This coupled with not having headlight relays makes one think that his low beams are too low. The relays really do change this.

Everybody has to have brighter lights- it's a craze. Who can out-blind you. Driving with fog lights when there is no fog.

Did you know that your night vision improves the more you go out in the dark?

So, in making our lights bright as day, we are not making the roads safer but more dangerous as you may blind someone and they might crash, perhaps into you. Do I sound square yet?

How often do you have to commit the road ahead of you to memory as a oncoming car with blinding low beams passes you? That point at which you can't see is getting more common if you live where people are installing high wattage bulbs.

The problem is huge enough now for the local government to pass legislation to restrict the use of these bulbs.

Super brights make high speed night driving possible- no wonder I see so many dead deer along the roads. You don't want to drive too fast at night in some places.

Not every thing is an upgrade in my humble opinion.

I do have a pair of fog lights that I occasionally use when driving in remote areas, and I tend to drive on dirt roads on low beam -there is less glare from road signs and it shows the pot holes better.

Square lights for a square car .
