I'm getting ready to change the bottoms on one of mine.
I changed the tops about a year ago.  It helped but I still
have some tire chewing.
You'll need a air hammer to get the top ones out.  The are compressed
in but the
bolt but it won't come out without a air hammer or by using a puller of
some kind.
I didn't need to do anything but change them.
They should be sealed in a new boot.

I haven't had to do mine yet, but if the uppers need replacing, it
stands to reason that the lowers will be right behind them in terms of
wear. To be proactive and per-emptive on the maintenance, replacing
both
upper and lower at the same time may be the better choice. Get it all
done at once, then "No worries, Mate!"
