If you can afford it order your parts from one of the list vendors for both sides, take your van and parts to a professional shop and have the job done. This is one of the very difficult Vanagon jobs and requires tools you'll only use probably one or twice in your lifetime. I watched the guys install upper, lower control arm and ball joints, new tie rod ends and strut rod bushings and I'm very glad I paid them the $275.00 labor to do the job. (with 4 wheel alignment). I'm thinking that all the required parts were in the neighborhood of $255.00 Don't get me wrong I'm a dyed in the wool iconoclast and pretty good shade tree mechanic but those ball joints and control arm bushings need lots of persuasion to move. If the alignment shop gives you a high bid just go to the one three blocks away ........... somebody will meet your budget. The first shop wanted to take his list prices on parts and charge me 25% more for using my parts. I reminded him that there were five other shops within spitting distance of his shop. He met my price budget.
