Hi all, I got my 84 going again...several folks suggested changing the Temp Sensor II but I'm stubborn and just kept testing it and getting OK readings. I did take the sensor out of my other van and tested that one with a pot of boiling water; now I have a good spare too.

What I did do is two things...I think the rich running was caused by a worn-out O2 sensor (not Bosch). It is no longer fouling plugs at least, and the blue smoke is no longer in the exhaust.

The herky-jerky problem is gone too. One of the fuel pump relays made a rattling sound inside when I took it out, so I switched in another from the parts van. I had tested that relay, but obviously when the loose part was not loose. This isn't the first time I've had a problem with a part breaking but not yet being completely broken. So maybe completely random engine problems indicate a loose part in the FI system; not fun to track down.

What I'm wondering is if the fuel-pump relay (Relay C)could stick open or closed or whatever state it is in and contribute to rich running? Because one other possibility that I am going to have a mechanic test is a leaky fuel injector ....
