I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you need a new clutch plate.

It is possible to drive a manual transmission without a clutch (if the transmission has syncromesh gears which most modern trans do.) You just have to match the speed of the engine to the speed of the transmission at the given speed of the vehicle.

Of course you have to START with the engine off and the vehicle in gear (1st). It's a pain, but it is possible to limp home over a fair amount of distance this way ( I used to drive my old Beetle on the Capitol Beltway without the clutch.) Poor college student and all.
