Thanks Fred... that was sure smarter than removing the whole bench. The cover just slid off the duct. Germain. I got that right side bracket screw with a long screwdriver. Must be a different attachment point in the 91. I guess the next trick is to remove the heater without introducing air into the cooling system... Mr. John, Remove the kickboard. 4 screw. Heater is right there, simple to take out to clean. Good Evening, Fred E-mail message I have the same problem except that I couldn't remove the cover because the air duct comes thru the cover. How did you get yours off? I need to check the O-Ring seal or some other source of a slight odor coming from that heater. My next move was going to be to remove the whole bench to get to it. I guess I'' wait to see if some list members have figured it out before I do anything stoopid...;=) Regards, John Meeks '91 Westfalia Multivan -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM]On Behalf Of Germain Sent: Sunday, June 08, 2003 9:38 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Heater under back seat Hi All I was cleaning my van the other day and specially under the back seat. I removed the small cover to get access to the heater. I was trying to unscrew all the heater assembly to clean the unit. The previous owner had a dog and the blower is full of hair dog and small paper gum. Is there any easy way to unscrew the screw on the right side? This screw is not easy to reach. The motor is blocking the access to the screw. Thank you Germain
