Subject: Fuel lines and electrical

Hi all,
I have some issues that I need a little advice with. First, I finally got my new radiator in and it seems to be doing great. My instrument cluster still has a gremlin in it so, sometimes the temp gauge does not read correctly though. I have changed the sensor with no luck. I am pretty sure that the plastic thingy with all the wires in the cluster is my problem. I have removed the cluster several times and seem to get various degrees of sucess with different things. Right now, the temp gauge works MOST of the time, but the cluster lights don't. Allways seems to be one thing or another that does not work when I get it back together. It is pretty ragged where the connector plugs in. I try each time to flatten then out so I can get a good connection, but I think that I will need to replace it. Is this very hard to do? I am pretty good at removing and replacing the whole instrument cluster, so that is not a problem. I am just a bit worried because my fingers are not the greatest at small sensitive work like that. I tend to break things with too much pressure. Also, is this a very expensive part? Is there a way that I can maybe fix it with a list hack?
Second, I got all the stuff to tune it up and put it all on this week except for the Fuel filter. I crawled under to change it and the fuel lines there are pretty dry rotted. Do I have to use the vanagon lines, or can I use standard hose. The metric hose looks really expensive. Also, how much do I need of each size to just go ahead and replace all of it, from the tank all the way to the injectors. I imagine it all is in about the same shape. I have a 88 by the way.
Thanks all for all of your help. This list has saved me a EMORMOUS amout of cash and headaches over the last few years. I can't even begin to thank all of you enough.
