Have you actually tried providing a good ground? You could do this by running a wire from the negative terminal of the battery to a ground point on the door (or better yet to the ground (frame?) of the window motor).

I'm still cranking my windows by hand (hmm, maybe this is a good thing), and I don't have a wiring diagram handy, so others may correct me, but it seems like it would be worth your time to confirm that the problem really is the ground.
