I go with George on this.

I got a complete fresh overhaul for $1500. New valves, guides, barrels, pistons, rings, lifters, bearings, new cam, new oil pump, new water pump, all the commonly replaceable stuff. heads were not new, but serviceable, as was crank, and case. But I had to use all my old accessories, including FI, Distributor, etc, etc, etc. Then I Ihad to pay for removal of the old engine, and installation of the new one. With some other stuff I had done at the time - like all new hoses, both fuel and coolant, etc, the final bill came out at 3 grand.

I'm happy with the total price, as the engine has never given me a lick of trouble and now has about 45,000 miles on it.

Like George said, it the PO's rebuild was goo, then the $1500 installed is a bargain.
