That metal tab is the ground point for the distributor RF shield , that metal shroud that goes over the distributor cap.

anyone grounding their distro to a good ground conection such as the motor top? looks like i have the little tab but the ground wire is missing. does the distro body ( metal ) need grounding to other grounds?
