I recently re-did my poptop and decided to replace my rusty bolts with stainless-steel. Available at any hardware store, they're more expensive than your typical zinc-plated but will never rust.

I don't know what kind of bolts were original--zinc or painted--but the stainless looks pretty spiffy on a hand-polished poptop with a new edge seal.

I suppose you could also prime and paint the stainless. At least if the paint came off later, the bolts wouldn't rust ...
