Subject: Fuel pump
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi all (again)...

Got the gas tank out, cleaned, replaced seals and some rotten gas lines to the overflow tanks and a new gas filter.

Tank mounted back on the van and filled with 20 litres (5.3 US gallons) of gas, cranked the engine and nothing ! (could hear the fuel pump starting).

Pulled the hose from the gas tank and gas was running out just fine. Put it back on and pulled out the hose after the filter. Turned on the ignition... pump starts, no gas to come out of the filter. Cranked the engine.. Pump running, but no gas. Hose back in place.. Pulled out the one between the pump and the filer. Ignition on, pump starts... but no gas. Cranked the engine, pump running, but no gas.

There where a lot of dirt in my gas tank, could that have killed my fuel pump ? If I hear the pump working, could it still be broken ? Finally, is it any way I can "flush" out any dirt from the pump, if there is something that has clogged it up ?

Thanks

Per

-86 Caravelle C (84-85 1.9L injection engine, no converter or oxygen sensor)
