Speedometer stopped working. Never had a Vanagon but on all my other 80-82 VW's it was always the upper cable from the speedo to the egr counter that was at fault. 3 separate vehicles like that.

I unscrewed both ends of the upper cable but was unable to remove it completely. Then I decided to just try and remove the actual inner cable. It didn't budge. This lead me to believe maybe it isn't the upper portion at fault. If the inner cable snapped(usually due to rust) I'd figure it would easily pull out in my hand...

The bottom portion looked fine as far as I could see, although once it goes into the hub it disappears....never dealt with the lower portion before....

A quick scan of 4 parts places list only the lower part or the upper w/ no egr counter.

Thoughts, been there's, or spare cables much appreciated ;-)
