Volks,
A man came up to me at the gas station yesterday
while I was filling up and wanted to know if I
wanted to buy some nice 14" teardrop VW rims for
my Jetta.  He had them on his old diesel Rabbit.
He wanted $125 for the four including the tires.
He said he wanted to sell the rims and take the
car to the junk yard.  When I got there the
Rabbit looked great.  There was some rust at the
seem of the bottom of the rear window but that
was all.  There was no headliner, no carpet, one
door handle didn't work, and the engine won't
start without starting fluid.  He had the
glowplugs replaced and it didn't help much.  The
car was bright yellow.  I'm going to go check out
the rest of the glow plug system early this week
and maybe do a compression check to diagnose it.
Wouldn't it be cool if the glow plug relay was
bad or something?

My questions:
1. Can carfax check if this car has been stolen?
If so would anyone be kind enough to run it for
me if they have the unlimited account setup?

2. If he has a clear title in his hand is that
sufficient proof that the car hasn't been stolen?

3. The rims alone went for $177.50 and a set with
tires went for $200.  If the car isn't hot I
guess I have to buy it.  Do any of you guys have
some Rabbit carpet or a headliner laying around
that isn't needed?

4. Has anyone had an offer made to them like this
and how did it turn out?
