I have not had the power steering operating in 5 years with my 91 sycnro westy. I still have the original smaller steering wheel. I get used to it and as long as the wheels are turning it is not to difficult to steer and on the highway, there is no difference - I may actually prefer it till I get too old and weak to steer.

There are 2 things that a person can do to aid this, 1) get the front geometry from an older (non-poer steering) van and/or 2) get an older steering wheel that is bigger in diameter and there for one has more leverage. I'm sure that it's in the archives. M
