I had my '91 Westy 2wd Automatic for 3 years and loved it. The only advantage I see now with my '87 Syncro Westy is the 1st, granny gear. My auto worked great. I think if it had experienced kick-down problems, that would have been a real negative function issue. Mine didn't but I've read here that some volks did. Bob Stevens
