Subject: Fuel Pump and hesitation Question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Should the fuel pump be absolutely quiet or is some noise permissable? I can hear a high pitched sort of sound while in the vehicle. It's surely louder than I hear also, since 80% of my high frequency hearing is gone.

I'm trying to track down a problem I' ve had since I bought the vehicle. Initially the engine would just go dead, usually on acceleration shortly after start up, but only for a second, just enough to cause a very brief feeling of decelleration. After one or maybe two such events everything is fine. It is not a 'miss' in the engine but a complete shutdown. Over the weekend on the first camping shakedown and even after completely warmed up the event occured about 7 or 8 times. Caused me to shorten the distance I intended to go, a bit worrysome. The next day, no problem at all.

Does that ECU unit fail bit by bit or completely when it goes?

I'll be changing the fuel filter and I think I'll do the ignition wires, just to improve long term reliability. I'm thinking to change the fuel pump and relay too.Any other thoughts? Bob
