Brian, unlikely to be the fan so go ther last. Look to the relay first. gary Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2003 09:00:19 -0700 From: Brian brian <jackstraw723@YAHOO.COM> Subject: fan or switch, 1.9L I'm wondering what it more likely to fail, the fan motor, or the thermo switch on the radiator that turns the fan on? My fan doesn't work (163K miles), but there are two possibilities. I'm slowly dismantling a Vanagon at a junkyard (also at 161K miles) so my first choice is to switch in parts from that van. (I think Bus Depot has a complete new fan for $150). Could the fan be tested by connecting it to a 12V battery? Could the switch be tested using a 12V battery and a pot of boiling water?
