Subject:   Head update and 1 exhaust question

11:00 pm and time for a margarita... Passenger side head is on as well as water pump and assorted connections. Have to sand the JB Weld a bit on the drivers side engine case tomorrow morning before I put the other head on. All is looking good... Got some parts in today from Vanagain.com (thanks Ken) but noticed that the muffler bracket is just one half of the circlular metal thingy that holds the muffler in place (in two different places). I don't remember seeing anything else on the Vanagain website for exhaust brackets, so what have others done when the other half (the half that bolts onto the body) has rusted away enough that there is no way to join the two muffler brackets together???

Interesting side note that as I was working on the Van in my gravel driveway (close to the road) today a bicyclist stopped and asked if I was doing a head job! Turns out he lives in the next town over and used to own a Vanagon... now owns a Karman Ghia and knew exactly what I was doing. I guess it is somewhat obvious what with the tarp over the back hatch door to keep out the rain and the halogen flood light burning until 11 pm and the strewed tools on the plastic drop cloth...
