Subject: Lack of power at low revs?
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello -

I'm new to Vanagons - recently got an 86 Syncro. I am having a problem with a lack of power, especially at idle and low revs. I've been looking through the past issues of the digest but haven't found a match yet - sorry if this is a common question.

Background: Van was running OK - coming home on the freeway and it lost power - nursed it home. When I got home it started getting loud - parked it and found the front passenger-side cylinder exhaust manifold was broken. I repaired the exhaust problem.

Now it seems to run pretty good when cold - when it warms up it looses power at idle and low revs. If I wait for the revs to build (sometimes it takes a while!) it will go OK. Kind of like riding my old 2-stroke dirt bike - VERY narrow power band.

I'll keep researching -but- any ideas?

Thanks, HC ===
