Because my friend, there is a lot of piping... and as good as its, vw designers are not gods... one little tiny area of just a wee bit of seepage (including potential headgasket seepage, which some say is present from day one), can change the pressure which can change the temperature... besides, more than once, even many times, I've turned heater & heater fan on, and watched the temp guage go down a notch to wear I feel more psychologically comfortable... I like it best never more than just a hair below the middle of the LED. I have seen it on in certain circumstances, (rate of travel speed, temp, duration of idle time, weather, traffic conditions, et) go a hair above the middle LED, I try to never let it get there. I'm already using my heater as a second thermostat, but I don't like getting myself hot all the time. Harbor and the 405, Santa Ana, the 55, and other places are sometimes sticking points.
