I have never seen a VW diesel with a tachometer. The "W" connector is (was) used to run the Dynamic Oil Pressure System on my '89 Jetta diesel.

This "w" terminal is used in diesel models, as a signal for the tachometer. With out this signal you need to provide a signal from a distributor to run the tach., whitch diesels obviously don't have. ERic
