I'm confused then. The diesel and gas tranny's I have sitting outside look identical in the mounting points. Also, a friend who converted his diesel to I4 replaced the existing tranny w/ one out of an 86 IIRC without a hitch - he just put the diesel bellhousing on and bolted it in.
