In order for generator produced power to be clean, the engine also has
to be highly regulated. This would not be possible with something
attached to the engine. I would suggest an inverter large enough to
supply your needs and an appropriate battery set up to feed the
inverter. A 2000 watt inverter should be sufficient.

I have been thinking that I would like to replace my ac unit with a
generator/alternator system to power my lights for location
photography. I'd have to end up with clean voltage that would for
short bursts be wanting 20 amps to recharge my strobes.  Right now I
have to rent a big ol Honda generator which is heavy big and
expensive.  Any of you engineer types out there know how I can do
this....?
BTW I dont ever use the ac cause I ilive in montana etc.
