i agree with you entirely..

my only problem with the solution you propose is that to switch from a
fossil fuel base to a non-fossil fuel base, there will have to be some major
advances in the production of synthetic fuels(in addition to the conversion
to a "cleaner" fuel source") for the older vehicles that have sentimental
value.. ie the muscle cars in 2fast 2 furious(it's early, i can't remeber
what they were >_> ).  also, we have to change the mindset of most
americans(they really couldn't give a monkey's uncle about the environment)

anyways.. the ignorant are helped in their ignorosity by the large oil
lobby.

i think i'm gonna go bathe in some fossil fuel now.. ya know, gotta start
using it as quick and as much as possible, lest it run out ;p
