Subject: starter + relay

hello again, and thank you all for the tips...someone sent me an electrical schematic of the radiator fan&switch that is way easier to use than tracing it out of the Bentley wiring diagrams...I'm wondering what book it came from.

for my starter, someone suggested checking for twelve volts being supplied to it, and I will, but with the way using the hammer to persuade it always works, I'm fairly sure it is something sticking inside the starter. but for right now, my starter seems not to be sticking today or yesterday, so now seems to be the time to look into the "hot-start relay", before I put in my new rebuild. is there an article on this already on-line somewhere? I've browsed the vanagon.com web pages and can't get at the mailing-list file-archive right now. (I could really use that article on oil additives too). but where can I find this hot-start relay? my local auto-electric shop can get any Bosch part if I have the #.

many people reported that their fuel sending unit is similarly flaky as mine appears to be, so I'll just be writing down the mileage quite carefully for awhile. in the long run I'll be pulling the tank from the junkyard, cleaning and re-sealing if necessary, and putting in a new sending unit, and installing in the Westy. it's good to be writing down the mileage, as it seems the simplest way to monitor performance while I worry about that one cylinder with some compression loss...
