Diesel and Luftboxer (D/L) trannies interchange. Wasserboxer trannies use a different shifter set-up. The D/L trans uses a shifter that attaches near the front of the trans. The wasserboxer trans linkage hooks up near the center of the trans. The gearing between each is substantially different as well. Our list admin, Tom Carrington, has an excellent page at <http://volksweb.relitech.com/>
