I completely agree. The first (and last) time I tried to put a collar on my cat, Vishnu, he ran around cowering all day. When I came home later that evening, he had managed to put his entire right leg up through the collar, to the shoulder. He came limping up to me with the leg sticking up in the air, looking MOST displeased. We had to cut off the collar to free him.

I was lucky he didn't strangle himself. If I had been there to see this, I could have helped him sooner. This was a few years before I bought my vanagon (content!)
