Subject: 84 Turn signals-No start
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

First question to the group - just got back into a '84 Vanagon! Here's the story:

PO had installed a warning device that would sound whenever the parking/headlights were left on. Made a very pleasant chime. Great. However, I had been noticing that the turn signals were flashing erratically, almost like when a bulb is bad. And, while the headlights were on, I would hear faint, intermittent noises that seemed to be coming from this aftermarket warning thinga-majob. Sooo, I think that removing it might clear up the crazy turnsignal flashing. I promptly remove it - it is a small acrylic device , with one red wire spliced into the spade of fuse #1 - left tail light/parking light, another green wire with it's own connector into, I think, an empty spade on the back of, maybe fuse #10 or #11, and a black ground wrapped around the box itself with duct tape. Easy enough to remove, and it did correct the erratic flashing, but now it won't start!! Ugh. Turns over, fuel seems to be delivered, but won't start.

Does anybody have any knowledge about these additions and the van's electrical system, or does it sound like I knocked something loose behind the dash? I checked everything as carefully as I could.

Help! Thanks in advance to all replies. Mark Wallace Atlanta, GA jmwallace1@attbi.com
