"I will be able to retire early"
It appears that "caverat" is more the a Satellite radio fan, perhaps a
salesman?? That would explain the overwhelming amount of propaganda the
last few days.
But it is Fryday....
Cheers,
Jeff

If 10% of the 220 million cars in the country get this, this industry will
be a huge success and I will be able to retire early. Sirius only needs
about 2 - 3 million subscribers to break even, and since the big costs
(satellite launches, studio builds, etc.) are out of the way, they will be
rolling in dough since there are relatively little additional costs
associated with bringing on additional subscribers. There a a good number
of people that believe this will be the next Microsoft or AOL, and time will
tell if they are right. The question is not whether or not this technology
works and will people like it, but instead will people pay for it. In 1.5
years between XM and Sirius about 650 - 700K people already have. XM is
supposedly signing up thousands of people a day. Sirius has 100K
subscribers, and expects 200K more by year end. XM has 550-600K
subscribers, and expects to be around 1.3 million by year end. Satellite
radio walkmans are on the horizon, as well as video streamed over the radio
to the new TV/DVD type of car radios that are starting to be sold in
vehicles for the kids in the back seat. Pay-per-listen events are planned,
so you can hear that live Stones concert if you want to. All the NBA games
were broadcast live on Sirius (up to 12 at a time), and there are rumors
that a deal to do the same with the NFL is in the works. It's coming
whether or not you are one of the few that will actually pay for it. Most
people won't, but only a small percentage need to. This industry has been
in the works for 10+ years, and it is just now starting to get known.
