Bosal is a fairly large supplier in the import aftermarket exhaust
business. There stiff is fairly good. At least VW made good on getting
some replacement for you. Getting 10years service out of a muffler
investment is not that bad a deal.

Subject: muffler woes

Bought a VW muffler from the dealer about 6 years ago.
 Paid too much, but they assured me it had a lifetime
warranty.  The previous aftermarket muffler lasted
only 3 years for me.  After having it replaced under
warranty for the first time last week, I was informed
that mufflers for the 1.9l have been discontinued.
They replaced it with an aftermarket (bosa?  bosel?
it wasn't familiar to me) and told me that i had no
more warranty.

Anybody else have this problem?  Any recourse?
