I have for some time had a loud clunking sound when my sliding door closes. Turns out there is a special "stop" this is supposed to be inserted at the end of the door travel at the point when the mechanism cams over to suck in tight to the body. It absorbs the impact of the door sliding forward just before closure. If this part is missing, the roller in the door, and the metal at the end of the track will be damaged. I finally got around to ordering the part - less than $5.00 from Camelback VW in Phoenix, AZ. The part can be seen on ETKA in Illustration 107-00. Item POS 10, Part Number 251 843 876 It's called a "Stop". I would suggest that all owners of our beloved vans check this stop. Be sure it's there. Not a biggy, easily seen. If it is missing there will be a horizontal slot with nothing in it. Without the stop, the metal at that point gets hammered!! Regards to all, John Rodgers 88 GL Driver |
