Hey... go visit the petroglyphs at Batchewana Bay. Its a neat, brief, stop... and just in that area is a hiking trail that leads to a big waterfall. The area is considered a special spot by local first nations people The hike several Km long... and can be challanging for aging westy owners. If you do not want to spend the entire week there.... go another few Km up the road to Lake Superior Provincial park and get an inland permit for interior camping. Then, go tent for a couple of nights at Wavel Bay. You will have to drive over 40km of gravel road to Lake Superior shoreline, then hike 7 k to Wavel Bay where the sand beach is simply amazing and very private. If the weather is hot, even Lake Superior is swimmable! In the Sault, there is the bush plane museum which is kind of cool... many fine dining spots... the old stone house is neat too. I remember staying at pancake bay and swimming there. The water was warm but full of fish eggs.... you couldn't see them but it felt like swimmimg in tapioca. No ill after effects 'cept an urge to swim upstream. Good luck Barry Mercer Sudbury, Ontaro |
