Adding it is not for the faint hearted. The overhead AC used in passenger Vanagons is 1) heavy, 2) lots of parts and 3) expensive (unless you're pulling the parts from a junk yard.

On the other hand, it does a REALLY good job of cooling the interior when it is all functioning. It moves a lot of air and distributes it well (unlike the Westy's rear AC.)

It >DOES< have a significant power impact...but for level travel it isn't too bad. (I had to turn off the AC when doing grades in the Appalachain Mountains, to maintain speed.)
