John, You may be correct about all this, but I think the kit at Advanced Auto, or Wal-mart, has something special in it that makes R12, and R134a oils compatable. I've converted a Jetta, AC system. I rebuild the compressor, and replaced the condensor at the time. Vacuumed out the system, and that thing will freeze you out, today. That was 3 years ago. I'll be doing another one here soon. Eric
