I'd think you'd want to disconnect the battery, Make sure the whole engine is cool, Put away any lights that could break, get something to clamp off hose from gas tank, just remove the line and catch the fuel in a container. I think the regulators are cheap. You might be able to put some electrical connector sealant - anticorrosive on the terminals.

well i am getting ready to install the fuel pump.....and i know that the lines are for the most part always under pressure so i wanted to know whats the best course of action on replacing.....also while is was doing that would that be a good time to replace the regulator as well?
