----------------------------------------------------------------

I again got an answer to a problem from the list, but this one was from a search of old messages.

I have had an annoying, just noticable, surge on acceleration sonce I purchased my 85 westy. I always figured it was due to a bad component or connection. Or maybe a half dozen. After fixing most things that could be causing it, I noticed some talk about a mod to the air flow sensor. I found the posts, which are very early on in the group, and made the mod friday morning. Definately made a difference.

Thanks again folks!

Now a word of warning to those that do the mod - it says to put a 22 microfarad capacitor from pins 2 to 4 on the AFM. This is correct, sort of. The connector pin 1 position has no pin in it, at least on my 85, so it would be very easy to misinterpret how to do this mod and put it from pins 3 to 5.

If you remove the cover it is easier to see what to do. The cap needs to go from the connection at the top of the wiper, which would be to pin 4, to _either_ of the 2 connections - pin 2 or pin 3. They are the same connection.

From the inside it is simple to do, since 2 and 4 have push on connectors which are easy to solder to. If only it was easy to get the top off. I hate scratching new $409 parts. ;)

To avoid any polarity problems, I would recommend using non-polarized capacitors instead of standard electrolytics. I had 2 leftover 10 mikes, and a 100. I did tests with 10, which left a lot of flutter on the signal, 100, which caused serious throttle lag, and 20, which works pretty well. I may put another 10 aand 20 next weekend to see how it works with 30 and 40 mikes.
