The problem with filters is that most don't have suficient internal spring pressure to maintain the oil in the galleries of the engine when it is shut down. This often results in the "clattering lifter" syndrome that plagues the WBX engine. Over time, I suspect that the draining of oil out of the galleries and the consequential wear occuring on startup while the galleries and spaces are being refilled with oil eventually results in problems in the engine. It is a slow cumalative process but will eventually bite you on the butt!! The black colored Mann/Mahl oil filters seem to be the only ones that meet the spec and do a really good job. Anything else is junk so far as the WBX engine is concerned.
