You can take the trans and final drive out and leave the engine in. I am still not sure if you can leave the final drive in and take the tranny out. I just put my AT/final drive back in, and it weighed about 165 lbs. So you will not need a 4 ton jack for that. You could probably do it without a floor jack, but having a jack that rolls makes it a lot easier. Its really not too hard to remove it. Takes some time, but I didn't find any really tough spots in the process.
