Ed, It is my understanding is that the capacitor fix is just another way of doing what the VW cable does - add a capacitor to limit variations in the signal to the ECU coming from the AFM. Read the attached material I culled from the archives a couple of years ago - explains various causes of bucking and cut outs and various fixes, but with a focus on the capacitor fix.
