HI there,

I have great success and many others I know, with Mann filters, a bit more expensive but highly recomended especially by the Volvo guys for which Mann is the OEM supplier. Another is Purolator which Subaru uses for OEM, avoid Fram. For more detail than you ever want, see: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/ I had a really cherry Subaru XT-6 whose engine bottom end was taken out by a collapsed Fram Extra Guard oil filter the PO had installed.

Tom No current VW involvement but lurking for a Turbo Diesel Vanagan or a Volvo Wagon with VW 6 cylinder Turbo Diesel

Hi Volks, I've normally been using Bosch oil filters in our 84 Westy, however I only have one left and am heading on the road soon for about 5 months. Without ordering anymore Bosch, can I use one of the brands sold at the local auto shop, such as Quaker State or Fram Double Guard. Is there any difference between these and the Bosch? What is everyone out there using? Opinions and experiences greatly appreciated. Ciao Steve - '84 Westy (Moaning Myrtle)
