If you use other than the Mahle/Mann/VW filters, you don't have a filter designed for your motor. You are using wannabees that have never been certified to meet stock specs. Sometimes, it means a dead motor sooner rather than later, as most of the filters, including Bosch oil filters, are designed to be cheap and then marketed with flashy graphics and testimonials from NASCAR names, totally different motors and uses.

Real filters are no risk. Others are unknown as to risk. If you trash can all the testimonials, all that is left is the opinion of the engineers who approve the specs for your motor, and the lubrication system is the most important part and most costly when it is not functioning in optimum fashion at all times. Only the spec filter will insure that.
