With that many miles it's time for a rebuild. Do it and then you can enjoy a long period of just minor preventative maintenance so far as the engine is concerned.

As for the rest of the van, it''s a close judgement call.

I really like my van and use it for my daily driver, so it has to be kept up. Given my age I don't ever expect to dispose of it as long as I can drive. The exception is if my left knee gives out completely then I will have to opt for a model with an auto tranny, but other than that, my manual tranny GL is vehicle enough for me. Meets my needs admirably. And it is completely paid for. It's mine. I own it. I have no debt attached. My youngest son just sold his fine and fancy late model 4x4 Chevy Silverado to get out from under the debt load. I have a fine and fancy vanagon (in my opinion) and I don't have a debt load --- na, na, na....ni -na,na!!

You may want to keep your machine.

Regards,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
