Ah hah - I thought I'd fooled you all! OK... so now that everyone is on to me, I might as well spill: I'm an aspiring Heidelberg radio thief. I keep a set of radio removal pins on my keyring at all times. I can have that radio out of your Vanagon faster than you can say wasserboxer. But then what? I joined the Vanagon list in 1998 and have pretended to participate for the past 5 years for the sole purpose of learning the secret inner workings of the Heidelberg s-a-f-e code system. A system which, I might add, has over the past two decades certainly deterred countless tens of thieves from stealing these highly sought after VW radios. I even actually acquired not one but two Vanagons to maintain my cover. I thought finally the time was right to ask about the code, but apparently I miscalculated. Drat - foiled again!
