I am not familiar with that battery, but yes, the recommended size, group 41, battery is a tight fit. I have always used Sears Diehard International series and never had any problems. I like them because they have a built-in handle, making it easier to get in and out. Otherwise you need a battery carrier strap. Never used any kind of a mat underneath. Depending on thickness, there isn't much clearance above the terminals. I use the felt washers on the terminals. Keep them clean and tight and spray with silicone. Never had any corrosion problems.
