Mike, If it makes you feel any better my Syncro Westy has used oil from day one. Depending on use and load, a quart every 1-2K miles. Even with an oil cooler. It now haw has 204K on it including the original head gaskets.

A quart per 2k in a new engine? And it took 15,000 miles of break in before it got to that. Started at a quart every 800 miles.

If you put oil per Bentley it comes to the top mark, I've heard the other way but can't buy the reasons given.

Didn't know abut the rings and the rebuilder says he's been using the same rings for years.

Oh, well, I'm going to live with it but not happily.
