Subject: Trip Report to Newfoundland - 4,200 miles of almost trouble free
              driving
Content-Type: text/plain

Back from Newfoundland this week. An incredible place to visit and boy was the weather nice. Saw moose, caribou, eagles, whales, puffins, icebergs, seals, and about 25,000 sea gannets. Sunny days and cool nights. Better than the rain and humidity down here in DC. In Newfoundland, one can "haul in" anywhere one wants in a Westy and no one will bother you. Stayed in campgrounds only 4 nights and the remaining 9 nights were usually on a nice public beach or cliff overlooking the water. Built fires and never had any problems or trepidations about staying the night. Most of the gas stations on the main highway had showers that were free. People were also incredibly nice. Got stuck in gravel once and it wasn't 5 minutes before 4 cars or trucks had stopped to help me. Many times people came up to me asking me if I needed help finding something. Guess I had a confused look on my face. The Westy performed quite well but I did have to get towed 130 miles to St. Johns when I couldn't get into 3rd or 4th gear. Turned out to be a linkage problem that cost about $30 to fix. Thank you AAA Plus for picking up the towing charge. Also lost a hubcap and had a taste of Vanagon Syndrome after many hours of highway driving. If anyone is planning a trip there this summer, drop me a line and I'll try and answer any questions.
