Hi Mike,

What type of magnets are you using? The neodymium rare earth magnets from www.wondermagnet.com are available in all sorts of sizes and strengths. They should have something that will fit the bill for your screen very well. If I had to guess, I would recommend trying 4 of the #030 - 3/4" x 1/8" spaced across top of the screen and 2 or 3 of the #032 - 1/2" x 1/8" down each side.

I made my sliding door screen out of an old screen house that had a big rip in one side. I sewed a 2" border of canvas around the perimeter and glued magnets in with silicone based craft adhesive. The zipper was already there, I just had to cut it down to size. For a weight at the bottom I used some big (#13 I think) ball-chain that I had kicking around sewn into the hem. It works pretty well and stays in place just fine with the magnets as long as I haven't had too many drinks to be able to work the zipper properly...

Hope this helps, Jay Brown '72 Riviera '85 Vanagon Westfalia

Vanites,

I bought a screen for the sliding door on my 85 Westy. It's meant to be snapped in the same way the rear door screen is. But I didn't want to drill any more holes in the van so I tried magnets as a means for holding it up.

No go. If they're strong enough to hold they can't be taken off or manipulated very easily.

Anyone have any other ideas for putting the screen in?

TIA

Mike
