My sympathies also! Why not repair the damage? (not economic?)

I will be replacing the entire fuel system in mine when (!) the SVX engine goes in.

Here in NZ we had a bad batch of gas too... lots of car fires, and this was NOT rear-engined VWs only! The additives were eating fuel lines and seals

I had a hose split under my injected 112hp 1974 Passat... only noticed it when I started smelling fuel out on the highway. Pulled over, climbed out (engine running) and found a horizontal fountain shooting out from under the car, spraying on the exhaust on the way.
